Family members recalled him reading sermons aloud to them on Sunday afternoons. Both family members and former aides mentioned that he set aside time for prayer and Bible reading each day. One well-known report stated that Washingtons nephew witnessed him doing personal devotions with an open Bible while kneeling, in both the morning and evening.
