LIBERIA: A LIBERIAN JOURNALIST CALLS ON THE PRESS UNION OF LIBERIA TO STOP PLAN TO ASSASSINATE HER William Q. Harmon of Daily Observer reports from Monrovia.. A Liberian female journalist is calling on the Press Union of Liberia to intervene to stop an alleged plan to assassinate her. According to journalist Tetee Gebro, the plot is allegedly being hatched by both Fumba Sirleaf and Chris Massaquoi, directors of the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Liberia National Police (LNP), respectively. Tetee, has resigned her post at Sky FM for what she described as the management’s perception of her being critical of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s son, Robert Sirleaf. Robert Sirleaf is an independent candidate for Montserrado County in the upcoming senatorial elections slated for December 16. Tetee said that on several occasions she has received calls from neighbors and friends, informing her of men roaming the community where she lives and asking neighbors about her house. In a letter addressed to PUL Secretary General, Kaihenna Sengbeh dated Wednesday, December 4, 2014, Tetee, who is the wife of former Lone Star player George Gebro, said that she is being considered as a threat to the senatorial bid of Mr. Sirleaf. The famous talk-show host, whose resignation was also a result of dissimilar ideologies with Sky FM management, said, “today [Dec. 4] I got information again from a reliable source that NSA Director Fumba Sirleaf and LNP Director Chris Massaquoi consider me to be a threat to Mr. Robert Sirleaf’s ascendancy to the legislature.” Mr. Fumba Sirleaf is also a son of the President. Mrs. Gebro, further stated, “My very reliable source, choosing to remain anonymous for fear of repression, said that the two top security bosses have already posted people to murder me under the pretext of my being attacked by armed robbers.” She called on the PUL, as the parent body of journalists and the media in Liberia, to take the matter seriously and take appropriate actions to save her life. “This is not the first time I’m getting this information, but this time it is very serious especially during such a hot political period in the country. And this is happening after resigning from my previous work place, Sky FM, where I was reportedly accused of being critical of the son of the President,” she further disclosed. Tetee, who said she currently lives in fear, no longer stays at her home for fear that she might be murdered like past journalists. The PUL has not yet publically commented on her request. When contacted yesterday for comments, NSA Director, Fumba Sirleaf, denied the accusation terming it as totally untrue, adding, “It has no basis. I do not even know the person in question and this information is really baffling me because I don’t know why will I want to harm someone I don’t know. I don’t also know why she thinks I want to harm her. I don’t even know her,” the NSA boss told the Daily Observer late Thursday evening.
