LIBERIA’S Hope Of World Cup Dashed Again -As Lonestar Lost To Senegal 2-0 By: J. The Liberia National Tea, commonly known as the Lonestar lost its chance of keeping its hope alive after it lost to the Toranka Lions of Senegal 2-0 at the Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville outside Monrovia. Despite a perfect coordination during the first half of the match, the Senegalese took the lead in the 15th minute of the first half through its star striker Pappis Demba Cisse controversial penalty. Despite the goal, Lonestar kept up the pressure, but could not find the back of the net as several chances were not utilized as strikers Francis Grandpa Doe, Anthony Snorti Laffor and defender Omega Roberts strikes had fans hungry for goals leaping from their seats but could not celebrate a goal as the first half ended 1-0 to Senegal. Back from recess, the team began to mount the pressure on Senegal, but soon get weary as Newcastle United star, Pappie Cissie netted in his second goal in the 8th minute of the second half, something which saw the entire stadium going silent with signs of disappointment on the faces of Liberians who had gather to see the Lonestar restore their lost hope for Brazil after losing to Uganda 1-0 in Kampala. The defeat means that Liberia has lost another chance of tasting the World Cup finals for the first time, as the team is seated at the bottom of group “J” with four points and just a game away to Angola. Liberian defender Omega Roberts was greatly at fault for both goals after yet another poor defensive display by him. The match referee from Kenya earlier cancelled a late first half header by the Lone Star for a contested foul, causing some angry responses by Lone Star players and fans. On the overall, Lone Star controlled the game but lacked finishing touches while Senegal made good use of their limited but dangerous attacks with experience.
