LIFE AFTER LOSS: In October 2012, Lewis’ wife suffered a massive stroke. Lewis was employed, but he was not able to work enough hours to meet his expenses, due to caring for his wife. He began borrowing money and food. In February 2013, his wife of 14 years passed away from complications related to her stroke. Between mourning the loss of his wife, fighting depression, trying to pay back his debt, and caring for his son, he ultimately lost his apartment. They moved into a hotel, but were unable to keep up with the high weekly rates. Lewis and his son became homeless. They arrived at Providence House and began our program in August of 2013. Lewis is enrolled full-time in our Work to Learn program and he and his son moved into one of our Project Next Step (PNS) apartments in January 2014. His case manager says, “He is appreciative of everything he receives, works hard and never turns down an opportunity to help others.” Lewis and his son are well on their way to regain independence and a bright future!
