LIFE OF A STUDENT This is my first semester in UPD. At first, I was so scared to enroll because I felt like my foundations in Sociology were weak. I was not a good student when I was in College. Every night I party harder and harder. Not paying attention to my subjects, thus, I only got passang awa grades ( such as 3.00 or 2.75). However, I was wrong, I have learned a lot from college because of left and right requirements, terror-and-difficult-to-deal-with-professors, and group meetings until dawn. Right now, I also have the best graduate classmates in the world. These classmates are not Madamot. They help me in many ways and support me. In return, I am always thankful to them and help them too. Things got serious when I exposed myself to research where being busy is just a mundane thing inside the workplace. I persevere i. Work harder. Study like an addict . Laugh a lot. Make other people smile. One thing that I truly appreciate this semester is the Classical Sociological Theories course. Because of this course, i love Sociology more. In this course, I explored the classical theorists such as Durkheim, Weber and Marx. Martineau is such an eye opener as well as Jose Rizal as a Filipino Sociologist. I also love Sociology of Deviance. I wish I could share everything that I have learned in this course. Lets meet!! I tell you about society, social class, functions, social mobility, social stratification, social circuitry, crime and punishment. I have so many things to do this semester. I have to report David Garlands Punishment and Modern Society. Secondly, I have to write a theory paper ( I do not know how to start). Lastly, I have to finish my research paper on deviance. So many things to do, so little time to do it. But, I appreciate all of these. These requirements make me love Sociology more, push me to work harder and inspire me to share what I know. However, students who are in college do not view the way I see it. That every school requirement is a material that helps us learn and understand things. Readings/handouts help us to see the past and facade. These are the things students take for granted. And I wont deny, I also took these things for granted. I hope the students will appreciate their teacher more and do their requirements not because they are required to do it. But, a sense of understanding that requirements, assignments and sleepless nights contribute to learning. I wish those students who passed Sociology will love their courses more and appreciate the relevance of it to their lives and society. I want to inspire people and instill a different kind of perspective. Perspective such as government maintains the social order, education helps us to climb social ladder, economy will bring social change, religion is more on practices and rituals and theology is a science only few can understand and family is in charge of (initial) socialization. Sociology is not a boring subject.
