LIFESTYLE SEGMENT @ 7:45: How to Maintain a Healthy Family Relationships are very important to keep healthy especially within a family. It takes some considerable effort to develop a healthy family structure, and it takes continued focus to maintain one. The investment of time to ensure that each member of your family is armed with the tools necessary to be productive individuals and supportive family members is invaluable. Allow your family members to express his or her own feelings and ideas. Maintaining eye contact, not interrupting and watching your body language will build mutual understanding between yourself and your family member. Remember, effective communication is the foundation of good relations as that promotes knowledge of one anothers problems, whims, needs etc. Be fully aware of your family members emotional and physical needs. That is only possible if communication is prevalent in your family. That will help you to draw close to the person and get to know that person and his/her needs better. Always laugh at yourself and at the worlds ways. Laughter is a great tension-breaker that can bring a family closer together. Dont take every single joke and remark seriously. Learn to be cool about whatever happens and ALWAYS maintain self-control, no matter what the situation. Always give to another person for his or her own sake and not for your own. Doing some chores, preparing meals, always being available for advice, giving gifts, going for walks and being affectionate are good ways to make people in your family feel good and healing old wounds. Giving is better than receiving. That also will help to rid family members of chores that other members may do. Your dad or mom, who works hard, will be pleased to find the dishes done, table set and your room cleaned as it gives them one less job to do. These gestures can make a big difference. • It takes knowledge to keep family relationships alive and stronger--actual knowledge about people and learning how to deal with actual conflicts. • Playing games with your family at family night is a great way to have fun and bond more closely. • Try your best to tell your parents everything about your personal life without them having to find it out themselves because trust once lost is hard to regain. • Be happy in your family. Happiness is contagious. • Make compromises whenever you can. It is better to give up a fight over something petty than scar your family life.
