Three years, early memories of life. An old Chevy truck crowded by family… Sun hot, water lukewarm, tasting of the barrel wax, green canvas smell. Tortillas, beans, chili, cheese, potatoes, warm bodies sitting, laying down, standing. Macadamite two lane roads, bumpy. Do not put your chin or mouth on the side boards. The taste of blood from cut lips, red…flowing as in combat years later. Travelling where? Work where? Anything, anywhere…Ozarks, green, hills rolling Trees including fruit and berry bushes lush with fruit, different colors, tastes and textures. Cool water creeks meandering through dense vegetation, birds, animals, creation Thank you Great Spirit. Parents and family working older sister staying back to cook and care for we young ones. Living in tents, buying from a traveling salesman, catching hail from some summer storms Earth wet, air clean, humid…baseball games against the black men, enjoying life.
