LIFTING MACHINERY INSPECTOR (LMI) SUMMARY: Responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting and certification of lifting-machinery, tackle and equipment. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Inspect, report and certify lifting tackle Inspect, report and certify lifting machinery as LMI Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on company equipment and vehicles Troubleshoot and report on lifting machines Write and maintain standard operating procedures and Job Safety Analysis Program RCI’s after completion of training Perform load testing on vessels and lifting machines Perform rigging studies and apply rigging studies Perform safety inspections and apply OSH Act, IMO, SAMSA and ILO rules Complete daily maintenance and repair logs Communicate with colleagues from other shifts or when going on leave Maintain and secure work tools Correctly utilise water bags as test weights as instructed Perform in-house training of junior and new staff Assist new and junior staff as required Clean and maintain work area Turn off and lock out equipment when not in use Always adhere to company policies and procedures Always adhere to the flag state rules and country laws Other duties as assigned ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Perform back-up for standby shifts for incoming vessels and offshore work Perform back-up for workshop Provide on-the-job training to new employees Complete and prepare new quotes Ensure all admin paperwork is completed and filled in correctly KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS Registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa as a LMI (Essential, certificate required) High school diploma or equivalent Advanced skills (journeyman level) required in one or more of the following areas: Basic Electrical, Basics Mechanical, Basics Hydraulic and Pneumatic systems Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics as wee as engineering drawings Maua; dexterity required for operating machinery and computers Ability to lift up to 25 kilograms when required. Heavier objects are also required to be moved at times but you are to ensure that adequate help is available when doing so WORKING CONDITIONS Working conditions are normal as for a manufacturing environment. Work involves frequent lifting of materials up to 35 kilograms and at times heavier. Machinery and tool operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and hardhats.
