LIGHTS ON FOR OFFICER SANTIAGO The Wanaque Police Department is asking ALL residents to turn on their porch lights Friday night at 8:30 p.m. as a tribute to slain Jersey City Police Officer Melvin Santiago who died in the line of duty this week. This is a small tribute that will show Wanaque’s resolve to honor Santiagos memory and show solidarity for the Jersey City Police Department. Chief Tom Norton stated There are no words for this senseless and brutal attack on a fine young officer. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Jersey City Police Department and the family of Officer Melvin Santiago.” The nonprofit corporations 53 Hours and Heroes Memorial Foundation are organizing this memorial for Santiago who was shot and killed on July 13th while responding to reports of an armed robbery at a Jersey City Walgreens.
