LIKE & SHARE -- Syrias Aramean (Syriac) and Armenian Christians suffer from ethnic cleansing which reminds them of the Ottoman Genocide against their (great-)grandparents in 1915. The World Council of Arameans (Syriacs) remains shocked and disappointed by the conspicuous silence of the international community on these crimes against humanity. The shameless attacks on ancient Aramean towns like Maaloula and Sadad last autumn inspired militant Muslims to repeat the same atrocities on March 21st in the largely Armenian city of Kessab in the Lattakia province, next to the Turkish border. Armenians all over the world, including celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Cher, have expressed their outrage through social media. The United Nations remains silent, even if Armenias Foreign Minister has written a letter to the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon, noting for example: All the available evidence and geographic location of Kessab, beyond reasonable doubt suggest that the late attacks were carried out by Al-Qaeda affiliated terrorist groups across the border from the territory of neighboring Turkey. Armenia has on many occasions raised the issue of the urgent need for the protection of ethnic and religious minorities, including Armenians in conditions of armed conflict in Syria, who have found themselves in extremely vulnerable situation and have become primary targets. Therefore, as the humanitarian crisis continues to linger, it is very important to strongly urge the Turkish authorities to take immediate measures to prevent further use of its territory by the extremist groups. The use of force against civilian population, regardless of their ethnic and religious identity, must be unequivocally condemned. The international community should undertake resolute efforts to ensure the safety and security of displaced peoples, including the Armenians, facilitate conditions for their early, safe and dignified return to their places of residence and provide indispensable humanitarian assistance to address their urgent needs. The Turkish Government continues to play a dubious role in Syria (the same goes for Qatar and Saudi Arabia): a recently leaked recording featuring Turkeys Foreign Minister and the Chief of its Intelligence Service exposed the sinister intentions of the Government to attack and invade Syria, while the connections to the mass murderers of Aramean and Armenian Christians, who can freely enter and leave Syria through the Turkish borders, remains underreported by the media and the UN Security Council. The World Council of Arameans (Syriacs) will continue to raise the voice of the voiceless until the wall of silence has been breached.
