LIKE SHEEP All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the LORD laid on him the sins of us all. (Isaiah 53:6 NLT) Homing pigeons can be released as many as one thousand miles from home, and they still will find their way back. For this reason, they were used during wars as messengers. Bees have the same sense of direction, and when taken miles away from their beehive, make a beeline back. Some animals have a sense of direction that cannot be confused, but one animal without any sense of direction whatever is the sheep. Sheep can get lost within yards of their destination. They wander and unless they are found, they usually end up dead or in deep trouble. Men are much like sheep. Isaiah wrote: All we like sheep have gone astray. Man does not have any innate sense of moral guidance, as the modern-day fear of nuclear war, riots, and murder testifies. Man cannot set his own morals just as he cannot set his own watch. Gods Word adds for the arrogant: If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us (1 John 1:8). Again: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). The ways in which we sin might differ, but we all stray: We have turned, every one, to his own way. What tempts some will not tempt others, yet each of us has a character flaw that separates us from God. Far more important than admitting we are sinners, however, is the fact that we can be found. The Lord has laid on Christ the sins of us all. The Good Shepherd comes into our lives, gives us a sense of direction, and rescues us from the destruction of sin. As long as He leads us, we need fear no evil. Copyright © 2008-2014 LifeChurch.tv All rights reserved
