LILLIAN M. FEENEY (89), FORMER PUTNAM VALLEY TOWN CLERK Lillian Mary Feeney of Putnam Valley died on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at Hudson Valley Hospital. She was 89. Mrs. Feeney served 1972-1980 as Town Clerk & Tax Collector, retiring January 1981, after 30 years’ service to the Town of Putnam Valley. She returned in 1982 to work an additional 8 years part-time as Secretary to the Supervisor. A Stenographer-Account Clerk, she was the first full-time clerk for the Town, and as Executive Clerk, instrumental in setting up procedures for various departments. She initiated and was responsible for the successful referendum changing the term of Office from two years to four years for the Town Clerk. Mrs. Feeney was born December 2, 1923 to Dennis and Alice Baron Mahoney in New York City. She graduated from Walton High School, the Bronx, at age 16. City employment was for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. and the Woolworth Co. Executive Offices. Locally, she worked for the Montrose V.A. Hospital prior to Town employment. Mrs. Feeney moved with her family to Lake Peekskill in 1942, having spent each summer there since 1933. On November 19, 1944, she married William F. Feeney at Fordham Lutheran Church, the Bronx. They moved with their family from Lake Peekskill to Spruce Knolls in 1965. A Charter member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Putnam Valley, she had been an auxiliary member of American Legion Post 1517, and also an active publicity worker for the Town Democratic Club and campaigns prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Putnam Valley Historical Society and PARC. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Feeney is survived by three sons, Dennis (Theresa) Feeney of Austintown, OH, William (Deborah) Feeney II of Monroe, CT, and Richard Feeney of Putnam Valley; a son-in-law, James Gorman of Putnam Valley; also, 10 grandchildren – Brian and Brock (Sharon) Spears, Dennis Jr., Timothy and Connor Feeney; Jill (Tim) DeRenzo, Bridget, McKenna, Emma and Hannah Feeney; great-granddaughter HeatherRose Spears; 2 great-grandsons, Christopher and Brock; and 2 step great-grandchildren, Kevin and Samantha Snyder. She is predeceased by two daughters, Rosemary Spears (1993) and Nancy Beth Gorman (2004), and a brother, Lawrence Mahoney, as well as daughter-in-law Patrice Feeney and son-in-law Philip Spears. Visitation will be this Friday, June 14 from 5 – 9 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, 35 Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley, NY. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 15 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Cortlandt Manor, NY.
