LINK BYFIELD – My tribute to him. - Jan 25 2015 GOODBYE LINK: SO SORRY- YOUR FRIEND, JOHN BALOUN JUST 5 DAYS AGO, I TRIED TO PHONE LINK BYFIELD; I HAD NOT SEEN HIM FOR A FEW YEARS AND JUST WANTED TO TOUCH BASE AND SEE WHAT HE WAS DOING THESE DAYS. I HAD NO IDEA HE HAD BEEN FIGHTING CANCER. HE WAS ALWAYS SUCH A CLASS ACT: Link Byfield sponsored me and featured me in the Alberta Report when I let my name stand to become a candidate for the federal Canadian Alliance Party and I competed against James Rajotte in 2000. He made it a long-term policy to never endorse anyone politically prior to that, but after we met, he so believed in me that he said he would make ONE exception. He featured me in the Alberta Report, and personally took this photograph of me in the car I campaigned in and placed it into a feature article in his magazine. He knew he would be chastised for it, but he did it anyway. I always admired his ethical and moral standards and his objectivity and his genuine concern for the well being of Albertans. He will be greatly missed as one of the great Canadians of this century They just dont make them like that anymore. Subsequently he ran as a candidate for the Wildrose Party of Alberta, and I was so pleased that men of his caliber would step up to the plate and do that, because, contrary to public opinion, running in politics is probably one of the toughest things a citizen who really cares can ever do. I always read the Alberta Report over the years. He was Catholic and had a strong personal faith that saw him through some rough times. The Secular Anti-Christian left wing MEDIA organizations deliberately and obsessively did everything they could to destroy him. Link Byfield told me at times, that he knew they would eventually destroy his magazine. On several occasions they sued him, much like they later sued Ezra Levant. They succeeded in both cases to destroy those magazines; but, like Link told me so many times, “they can kill my magazine, but they will never kill my spirit or me”. I will always hold Link in utmost esteem. I am not a Catholic, and I subscribe to no religion in particular, but if there was ever an example of living the life as the Bible says we should, I found that in LINK BYFIELD. Rest In Peace, Link, You made the world a better place. Your friend, John Baloun.
