Cory Wride when the officer stopped to check on a vehicle he thought was abandoned. Officers caught up with Garcia-Jauregui and exchanged gunfire with him. Garcia-Jauregui and another officer were both shot and hospitalized; Garcia-Jauregui died later of his injuries.[1] 2014-01-28 Dank, Gracie Louise (21) North Carolina (Wilmington) A Wilmington police officer fired 4 rounds into Danks car.[2] 2014-01-25 Parminder Singh Shergill (43) California (Lodi) [3] 2014-01-21 Koster, Keith (54) Indianapolis (Indiana) An unnamed officer shot Keith Koster, a mentally ill man, while in the process of a Welfare Check.[4] 2014-01-16 King, Marie (55) Boren, Kelly (32) Boren, Joshua (7) Boren, Haley (5) Utah (Spanish Fork) Lindon police officer Joshua Boren (34) did not show up for work one night, prompting his commander to send officers to his home where they found the bodies of Borens mother-in-law, wife, and two children, along with his own body. Police say the couple had been experiencing marital problems for several months.[5] 2014-01-16 Jordan Baker (26) Texas (Houston) [6] 2014-01-05 Arias, Rocendo (23) Washington (Yakima) An officer was checking on a suspicious vehicle in a car wash’s parking lot. During the contact, the officer shot Arias, the sole occupant of the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.[7] 2014-01-05 Vidal, Keith (18) North Carolina (Boiling Spring Lakes) A man called police to help with his stepson, Keith Vidal, who was having a schizophrenic episode. Vidal had a screwdriver in his hand, and when he refused to drop it officers first tased and then shot him, killing him. The officer who shot Vidal, Byron Vassey, was charged with voluntary manslaughter.[8] 2014-01-04 Murray, John (31) New Jersey (Paterson) An officer confronted Murray, believing that he matched the description of a man wanted for a home invasion. Police say Murray was armed with a knife and that a struggle ensued. The officer fired one round, killing him.[9] 2014-01-04 Estrada, Michael (49) Arizona (Sierra Vista) [10] 2014-01-04 Humphrey, Jesse (30) Washington (Selah) Police had a warrant to search the house. Jesse Humphrey made a shot from a long rifle, which led to the arrival of a SWAT team who killed the man.[11] 2014-01-03 Williams, Joeshawn Edward (21) Oklahoma (Oklahoma City) Police spotted Williams standing near a 7-Eleven store in the area, who then appeared to try to run away when approached by police. Police Sgt. (47) Texas (Dallas) Michael Schmidt, a lawyer at the Schmidt Firm in Dallas, reported that his apartment was being burglarized. He was home with his 11-year-old daughter. Police stated that Michael Schmidt started shooting at police officers and officers returned fire and shot him dead.[14] 2014-01-01 Bridges ,Shane (33) Oklahoma (Chelsea) [15] 2014-01-01 Reece, Julias Michael (20) Michigan (Redford) An armed man suspected in a series of carjackings in Redford and Detroit was shot and killed by police on New Year’s Day.[16] February 2014[edit] Date Name (Age) State (City) Description 2014-02-14 Rodriguez, Luis Oklahoma (Moore) Police responded after Rodriguez wife and daughter had an argument in the parking lot of the Warren Theater. After Rodriguez refused to show police his identification, they attempted to arrest him and Rodriguez resisted. Two on-duty Moore officers, one off-duty officer and two off-duty state game wardens were present during the altercation. Rodriguez stopped breathing during the beating and paramedics were unable to revive him. When they flipped him over you could see all the blood on his face, he was disfigured, you couldnt recognize him, his daughter told journalists.[1][2] 2014-02-14 Berghardt Jr, DAndre (20) Nevada (Las Vegas) Berghardt died at the scene. His name was released by the Clark County coroner’s office on Sunday, but little has been forthcoming from the police agencies involved. The Highway Patrol has said nothing since the day of the shooting. [3][4] 2014-02-14 Roupe, Christopher (17) Georgia (Euharlee) A 17-year-old male, Christopher Roupe, was fatally shot in the chest by officer Nancy Beth Gatny when he opened the door of his home while holding a Wii controller in one hand. Gatny came to the house to serve a warrant for Roupes father, who was on probation. The officer told the Georgia Bureau of Investigation that she believed Roupe pointed a gun at her after he opened the door. The Cherokee Judicial Circuit district attorney charged Gatny with involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct, but the grand jury did not obtain enough sufficient evidence for the case to proceed to trial, and charges against Gatny were cleared in July 2014.[5][6][7] 2014-02-22 Alvarez, Armando (44) Arizona (Tucson) Alvarez tried to get away on a bike after robbing the Chase Bank near Broadway and Wilmot. He was found nearby, hiding in a homeowners shed. When he came out, officers noticed he had an object in his hand and refused to drop it, according to a news release. All three officers shot at Alvarez and he was later pronounced dead. [8] 2014-02-28 Jones, Marquise (23) Texas (San Antonio) Officer Robert Encina was working private duty (in full uniform) at a restaurant when he approached the drive-through because of an alleged disturbance between two vehicles. Jones was a passenger in one of the vehicles. Police say that Jones got out of the vehicle and displayed a gun, prompting Encina to shoot him multiple times in the torso. But a helmet-camera video showed Boyd, who claimed to be a federal agent, agreeing to walk down the mountain with them, gathering his things and having his back turned to the officers when they fired.[10] 2014-03-11 Keyes, Albert William (53) Kentucky (Louisville) Deputies went to the Bluegrass Mobile Home Park to serve a felony warrant on a wanted individual. Police came into contact with Keyes, who lived at the target residence. Keyes insisted he wasnt the intended person of the warrant. When asked to show a proof of identification, Keyes exited his home and fled the scene in his pickup. Police pursued Keyes until he stopped at nearby business at which point he left his vehicle and pointed a knife at the responding officers. He was then fatally shot by police. Upon further investigation, the police confirmed to the press that Keyes was not the subject of the warrant. The person of interest was another man who had moved out the trailer park last year.[11] 2014-03-09 Sambuunyam, Erdenebileg (40) Illinois (Sleepy Hollow) Police went to a domestic disturbance incident and attempted to restrain Sambuunyam, who had attacked and injured two people. Sambuunyam tried to cut the officers with a knife and was subsequently shot. He was transported to a hospital and passed away from his gunshot wounds.[12] 2014-03-08 Harmon, John (50) California (Sacramento) Police responded to a report of a man wielding a knife abroad a light-rail train. Police confronted Harmon and were unable to restrain him with a tazer. Harmon then charged towards the officers with his knife and was shot several times.[13] 2014-03-02 Nevarez, Gabriella Monique (22) California (Citrus Heights) Officers pulled over a suspected stolen vehicle occupied by Nevarez, who allegedly rammed a police car and fled. After a pursuit, police say Nevarez rammed a second police vehicle before officers shot and killed her.[14] 2014-03-02 Shannon, Ryan Matthew (41) California (Antelope) Officers were responding to a report of shots fired when they found Shannon allegedly carrying an assault rifle while walking down the street. Police say Shannon refused to drop the weapon and instead pulled out a handgun and pointed it at them. A trooper arrived at Thomass house and shot Thomas multiple times after he allegedly pointed a gun at the trooper. Witnesses at the scene reported that officers approached without lights on and did not ring the doorbell, and that Thomas was not aware that they were police.[1] 2014-04-10 Winkler, John (30) California (Los Angeles) Three deputies fired at Winkler, killing him, when he fled from an apartment where he had been held captive. The alleged attacker, who has been charged with attempted murder and torture, had been holding his roommate and two others in the apartment. Winkler and another man were running out the door when deputies arrived. Police say they found the attacker assaulting the third victim inside the apartment after they killed Winkler.[2] 2014-04-26 Ramsey, Samantha (19) Kentucky (Boone County) A deputy responding to a field party is hit by Samantha Ramseys car. While on the hood of the car he fires four bullets through the windshield, hitting and killing Ramsey.[3] 2014-04-30 Hamilton, Dontre (31) Wisconsin (Milwaukee) An unnamed Milwaukee police officer confronted Hamilton, who was lying on the ground near Red Arrow Park in downtown Milwaukee. The officer claimed that Hamilton began beating him with the officers own baton, at which point the officer drew his firearm and shot Hamilton 5 to 10 times. Hamilton was pronounced dead at the scene.[4] May 2014[edit] Date Name (Age) State (City) Description 2014-05-31 Rock, Tayler (22) Kansas (Dexter) A deputy pulled over a vehicle for a traffic violation. Tayler Rock and a one-year-old child were inside. As the deputy approached the vehicle, Rock tried to drive away, allegedly dragging and running over the deputy, and Rock was shot. The deputy then removed the child from the vehicle and performed CPR on Rock, who was pronounced dead at a hospital. Hiatt was a suspect in an incident the previous day in which two women were shot and killed.[2] 2014-05-31 Baucum, Etoine (44) New Jersey (Patterson) [3] 2014-05-31 McCall, Sandy James (33) North Carolina (Raeford) Police were investigating a report of a suspicious person when they encountered McCall. Sgt. Samuel Morant shot and killed McCall during an altercation.[4] 2014-05-30 Wadsworth, Danny Michael, Jr. (31) Nevada (Las Vegas) Police began pursuing Wadsworth after two women reported their purses as stolen, tracking him via one womans cell phone. When police caught up with Wadsworth, he allegedly began shooting at them. Vincent Tabbs and Officer Andrew Nacin shot and killed Blocker when he refused their orders to drop the weapon, which was discovered to be a pellet gun.[7] 2014-05-30 Jimenez, Brandon Lee Macias (26) California (Woodland) An officer shot and killed Jimenez while he allegedly held a gun to the head of a woman he had taken hostage. He died immediately after the shooting.[15][16] 2014-05-09 Hernandez, Osman (26) California (Salinas) Officers were responding to multiple 911 calls about a man running around a shopping center with a knife. Hernandez was a field worker, and the knife was one used for cutting lettuce. He had allegedly wandered into the shopping center from a nearby bar. Police say Hernandez was not following officers commands. They fatally shot him while handcuffing him.[17] 2014-05-02 Johnson, Londrell (33) Wisconsin (Madison) Officers were responding to an apartment where three people had been stabbed. Officer Carlin Becker and Sgt. Dave McClurg shot Johnson multiple times after he allegedly advanced upon them with a knife. Johnson later died in a hospital. According to police, Brown, who was unarmed, shoved and hit a police officer, and reached for the officers handgun. The officer then shot Brown.
