LITERATURE INTO CINEMA: THE CHALLENGES OF ADAPTATION When you come across a great book, you might feel like turning it into an equally great screenplay. Fortunately, the film industry too is now keen to receive spec scripts based on literary material. However, the process of adaptation is a challenging one, with its own set of principles, guidelines and cautions. FWA has decided to conduct a workshop on that process, by inviting screenwriters who have successfully adapted novels and short stories into engaging screenplays. What to expect? Educative insights and tips on adaptation from experienced & successful writer-directors of Marathi films. There will be one-on-one discussions with the below screenwriters on their journey of creating a screenplay from a book, their creative choices, difficulties, arguments with the producers, practical difficulties, finding solutions... Time permitting, we shall also see read excerpts from the book and watch corresponding sequences of the film. Mahesh Manjrekar ( Kaaksparsh, Astitva ) Ravi Jadhav (Natrang, Baalak Paalak, Time Pass) Girish Joshi (Kaaksparsh) Milind Bokil (Shala. A unique writer whose one story has inspired two films!!) Renuka Shahane-Shanta Gokhale (Rita) Guest Speaker: Anjum Rajabali (Raajneeti, The Legend of Bhagat Singh) Facilitator: Manisha Korde (Malamal Weekly, Prem Mhanje Prem Asta...) Language alert: The medium of interaction will be Marathi, since we are primarily using adaptation examples from Marathi Cinema. However, Anjum Rajabali will speak in Hindi. Please note that this event is only for FWA members. Fees: Zilch. Zero. Paise nahi. Paishe laagnaar naahit :)
