LJ Shores Time: am Temp: 63 degrees Viz: 20’ – 30’+ depending on location Buddy: Roger U. Met up with Roger U. for my 2nd mission to find the LJ Seahorse. We dropped into semi-blue waters and made our way down a bit, were it got a bit hazier and darker. Almost immediately we came across a strong downward current, so the death grip of finger in sand was enacted. Within a few minutes Roger was signaling. Voila, the Seahorse. It was tucked into some detritus. Just beautiful, about 7” tall, sorta reddish / yellowish. It’s so strange to actually see a Seahorse here at LJS. Needless to say we took turns filming. It was so cute; we observed it eating, and then it swam a bit. Although we got close, we were sure to also give it room and not stress it. I hope it can survive being in this area. Finally, we moved on back south. Except for a few of the usual suspects, there really weren’t too many other critters out. In addition to the Seahorse, the other excellent highlight was the enormous, ginormous, schools of Sardines and Jack Macks that were never ending. More massive than yesterday. To top it off, as we neared VP, a squadron of about 12 Cormorants at one time, were dive bombing, swimming, and fighting with each other over fish. 2 birds were actually fighting over 1 fish and pulling it apart. The sights and carnage at VP was amazing; fish scales everywhere. But, sadly, beyond epic critter action demanded beyond epic camera housing continuous catastrophes for me. I so meticulously cleaned the housing yesterday after its issues…but, today it fogged, and then a button got stuck. It’s a miracle I got any decent proof of Seahorse through a fogged lens! I am sure Roger has some excellent video he will post soon. So, for my third try tomorrow I am using another housing, and may the housing Gods be with me already! A great and epic dive. jackie
