LOCAL COMPETITIVENESS IS KEY TO GLOBALLY COMPETITVE LGUs - The National Competitiveness Council accepts as true that the development framework of local competitiveness is one of the key links in connecting global competitiveness to the Local Government Units (LGUs). Initially, the competitiveness ranking of cities and municipalities in the Philippines was conducted in year 2013 through the Regional Competitiveness Committees (RCCs) to evaluate the level of LGUs’ competitiveness. The RCCs gathered data on competitiveness indicators from 122 cities and 163 first class municipalities. These indicators measure the LGUs’ level of competitiveness and can be used as basis of reforms. Daet, Camarines Norte ranked 4th in the competitiveness among 163 first class municipalities while all cities, except Ligao and Iriga were included in the Top 50 competitive cities. In 2014, the Competitiveness Survey will be conducted to cover the following cities and municipalities in Bicol Region: PROVINCES: Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Masbate and SORSOGON CITIES: Legaspi, Ligao and Tabaco; Naga and Iriga; Masbate; SORSOGON MUNICIPALITIES: Camalig, Daraga, Guinobatan, Libon, Oas and Polangui in Albay; Daet and Labo in Camarines Norte; Buhi, Calabanga, Libmanan, Nabua, Pili, Ragay, Sipocot and Tinambac in Camarines Sur; Virac in Catanduanes; Aroroy and Milagros in Masbate; BULAN AND PILAR IN SORSOGON.
