LOCAL NEWS - More and more young people are finding work in Milton Keynes, according to latest figures released by Neighbourhood Employment Programme (NEP). A record number of 125 people were found work in the three months in the run up to Christmas, suggesting an improving employment market. In recent years young people in particular have found it difficult to find a job and so importantly 24% of those people finding work this time around were between 18-24 years old. In addition the scheme prepares people for work by encouraging job hunters to improve their skills by encouraging them to take vocational training courses. Cllr Hannah O’Neill, cabinet member responsible for Regeneration, said “The Neighbourhood Employment Programme gives people the confidence to go out and find work or in some cases get back into work. “Over the last few months this strong upward trend has continued into December with 23 residents finding work – double last year’s total.” NEP is an employability, education and training support service helping residents into work by offering job search facilities, advice and training at locally based Job Clubs throughout Milton Keynes. Since the NEP launched three years ago over 3,700 people have used the service and more than 1,000 people have been found a job.
