LOCAL NEWS FOR 20/11/13 THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND SANITATION IN COLLABORATION WITH UNFPA ENGAGES SERVICE PROVIDERS IN A SEVEN DAYS TRAINING IN PORT LOKO. Sister Mariama Momoh is the representative of the Port Loko District Health Management Team (DHMT). She told this medium that, the ministry of health AND UNFPA, thought it wise that, the effective use of family planning, especially, the long-term practices, by the women and girls in the communities, would stop or minimize unnecessary reproductive health issues, teenage pregnancies, infant and maternal mortality and many more. Sister Momoh states that, service providers are been trained so as to help women folks to see the need for family planning in other to realize their educational objectives. She commends the Sierra Leone government and UNFPA in favouring the training to the Port Loko community, and that, DHMT would work hands in gloves in order to realize the objectives of the training. Brima V. Kamara is the UNFPA representative. He says, the Association partners with the health ministry to develop the country’s programme action plan CPAP, in order to reduce maternal deaths with evidence base plan, using the new curriculum, and formulate a national plan, so as to achieve a necessary family planning program in Sierra Leone. He says, each participant would have to insert five implant to client, as a result base exercise. He admonishes service providers to give acceptable information to client so as to take responsibility of any side effect. Hawa Daramy represents the Ministry of Health. In her statement, she explains that, Family Planning is not only a critical issue for women and girls, but it is also a road map for the betterment of all and sundry in the communities. She says, Family Planning is a human right base, to have a child by choice, and not by chance. She commends UNFPA for providing the financial and technical support so that, the community health officers and assistants, the other environment committee Health Nurses, as well as the Policy makers, see Family Planning as a right and not a privilege. The Deputy Chairman of the Port Loko District Council, Ibrahim Santigie Bangura, thanked the government, the Ministries and donor organizations to always take Port Loko District as a testing ground for all developmental activities in the country. This, he says, would contribute immensely in building the human resource base of the district. Similar statement was made by Sister Fatmata Bayor, but emphasizes on the continued support for effective service delivery. The training, the facilitators states, covers topics like; insertion of implant, Family Planning situation in Sierra Leone, contraceptives methods, infection prevention, management of side-effect and the like.
