LOCAL NEWS@INSTAFOREX Source: thestar.my/ EX-SECURITY MANAGER SUING GOVERNMENT & COPS OVER ALLEGED TORTURE KUALA LUMPUR: A former security manager who is now disabled is suing the Government and police for allegedly torturing him in relation to a robbery case involving RM500,000. S. Selvarajah, 55, who was then attached to Tesco Stores Sdn Bhd, said he had monitored two cashiers counting RM500,000 in daily collection at the Selayang-based hypermarket at 12.30am on Sept 4, 2012, when four masked robbers fled with the cash after hitting and tying him up. Selvarajah said he lodged a police report at the Kepong police station. He claimed that he was, however, arrested the next day and remanded. He also said that he was assaulted by Insp Mohd Hanis and other policemen on Sept 5, 2012 during his detention. He said he informed a magistrate about the assault. Selvarajah was released on police bail the next day. Selvarajah said he suffered grievous injuries on his soles, knee and head and sustained permanent disability due to the assault. The court had set Jan 19 for case management. Senior Federal Counsel Zureen Elina Mohd Dom appeared for the Government. In Selvarajah’s statement of claim, he named Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, Insp Mohd Hanis, assistant management director (Affairs of Retired Policemen) ACP Zakaria Pagan, Criminal Investigation Department director DCP Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh and the Government as defendants. In his suit filed on Oct 13, he is claiming for RM200,000 in general damages for harassment, unlawful detention, pain and suffering. In the statement of defence filed on Nov 27, the defendants denied the claim, saying that they conducted their duties according to law during his arrest and remand period.
