LOCAL NEWS NOMINATIONS have officially opened for the 2015 Sports Awards. The annual celebration of home grown talent is one of the biggest dates in local sporting calendar - and this year the judges will once again be spoiled for choice. Gerry Campbell, the chairman of Antrim Sports Advisory Association, has urged local people to make sure that their sporting hero is in the mix. “Do you know someone in the Antrim Borough that has excelled in their sport this year or has been an outstanding role model to their club or team mates? he asked. “Is there someone in your local club that you simply could not do without? If so, then why not nominate them and honour their achievements at the annual Sports Awards. “There is no doubt that there is a wealth of sporting talent within the Borough. This annual awards ceremony highlights the invaluable work carried out by the many hundreds of volunteers and professionals involved in sport in Antrim. “So if you know someone who is a worthy winner then why not pick up a form and nominate them? Organised by the Sports Advisory Association and Antrim Borough Council, the event will acknowledge and reward sporting achievement in the string of categories, including: Sports Performer of the Year; Junior Sports Performer of the Year; Manager/Coach of the Year; Senior Team/Club of the Year; and Junior Team Club of the Year. There will also be awards for Sports Person of the Year with a disability for Services to Sport, though winners in these categories within the last three years are not eligible. Locals can nominate anyone from a sports club, their individual members or any other sports person who lives within the Borough of Antrim competing at amateur level. Nomination forms are available from Antrim Civic Centre, the Antrim Forum, the Old Courthouse Information Centre or can be downloaded from antrim.gov.uk Completed nomination forms must be returned by Friday, February 6. The Antrim Sports Awards Legacy Event will take place on Friday February 27 at the Templeton Hotel.
