LOFOB CELEBRATES WORLD BRAILLE DAY - share this LOFOB joins the blind community throughout the world in celebrating WORLD BRAILLE DAY on the 4TH of January. This day is in honour of Louis Braille, the inventor of braille who was born on 4 January 1809. Braille is a key element in the access to literature and communication skills. For blind students braille is the key to literacy and future employment. LOFOB recognizing the importance of access to information now offers a braille printing service to give blind people access to vital information such as the recent braille booklets on Breast and Testicular cancer which LOFOB produced and distributes in collaboration with the appropriate agencies. LOFOB in its programme to promote independence through development offers braille training even to visually impaired pre-schoolers and their parents. For at least two centuries now, blind people have learned to read and write using this unique system of raised tactile dots. This has helped countless numbers of blind people to access literature and study. Today South Africa boasts some of the most learned legal minds, who are blind, who used braille to study and now contributes to our nation’s well-being. Because of the holiday season in South Africa, no special event will be held on World Braille Day. These braille machines are very expensive, around R40k.. If you wish to contribute to sustaining this service, please DONATE directly into the LOFOB acc; FNB, PLUMSTEAD; ACC NO 50160010788 BR CODE 201109 For more in formation, call LOFOB’s PRO, Heidi Volkwijn on 0217053753
