LOGISTICS NEVER FAILS : Island of Saba (Alluring & Dangerous) To visit a beautiful place of just 13 km2 that consists largely by a potentially active volcano & is populated by just below 2000 people, would you consider landing & taking off from smallest, one of the most dangerous airport in the world along with the shortest runway in the world? The place is known as Saba, a Caribbean island that is a part of the Netherlands. The airport is called Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport (IATA : SAB , ICAO : TNCS) which is the only airport available on the island. Due to the runway as short as 396 metres length, jet aircraft are definitely unable to land on this airport. Nevertheless, propeller aircraft are most welcomed here. On the other hand, before even landing on this island, the pilots of the planes has to be well experienced & ensure sufficient fuel is available in the aircraft to return. The reason is not just because of the airport size. The other reasons are the airport operates its tower not for Air Traffic Control purposes but merely for advisory services & aviation fuel is not available on any part of the island. The good news is, the airport is not the only means of transport to get to the Saba Island. Fort Bay is the island’s official port located on the south side. This is the only place where vehicle fuel is available on the island. However, this port has destroyed several times by hurricanes. As a conclusion, no matter how remote, small & dangerous a place maybe, the transportation or the logistics industry never fails to deliver. Follow the link : youtube/watch?v=XiVM0w9YquQ
