LOIS LERNERS IRS EMAILS I have no idea whats in them or whether they have now been heavily redacted. I have no idea whether they will be innocuous, damaging to the IRS, or, worst of all, show a connection between political appointees and IRS targeting. Nobody can possibly know that until they carefully review all the documents (and also determine if all the documents have been turned over). Still, four points stand out about this news: 1) The IRS top officials consistently said they could never recover these emails. It turns out they never looked at the backup tapes. If top IRS officials had not be pressed consistently by the House and a lawsuit, these emails would have disappeared forever, under the false claim they did not exist any longer. 2) The info that the IRS chief said was gone forever was readily recovered by the IRS Inspector General. Imagine that. 3) The IRS chose to disclose the news and newly-discovered documents on a Friday afternoon. That is a sure sign they wish to bury the news. 4) So far, the IRS effort to bury the story is working. The NY Times and Washington Post do NOT mention the story on the front page of their websites as of late Friday night. No news here, move along.
