LOL...this is the strangest thing. A half hour ago my post of mines was on here...gone again. Please dont re-post. Im going to do a written statement on it and see if it stays! Picture a map of the lake. Take about one half of that map which would be the eastern section. #1 - The Dellroy Mine was located in the section of land between two backwaters just off SR 542. If you turn on Avalon you can see a highwall to the left. This mine was an underground mine. Elevation 902. Abandoned in 1922. Owner unknown. #2 Allen Mine was located on SR 39 to the right going toward Carrollton, just out of town. A very small piece of it was in Monroe Twp. This mine was an underground mine. Elevation unknown. Abandoned in 1898. Owner was Samuel Allen. #3 Merrick Mine was located at the very eastern tip of Atwood Lake. It also was an underground mine. Elevation 890. Abandoned in 1932. Owner was Robert Merrick. I would guess it is near Pine Hill. If you go across the access road there you can see a highwall. #4 Russell Hill Mine was located between SR 542 (toward Magnolia) and SR 39...in fact the tip of it comes up to 542 about the 1st bridge. It also was underground. Elevation unknown. Abandoned 1906. This would probably be the one that we have pictures of the tressel and whose foundation can be seen at lake drawdown.
