LONDON FREE PRESS -READER to READER Column Saturday January 11, 2014 Food Drive grateful for support On behalf of the Business Cares Food Drive committee, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the London community for helping us collect an incredible 281,534 pounds of food for the London Food Bank. This is 8% more than last year and given the continuing economic challenges our community faces, shows the true generosity of Londoners. This campaign was the most challenging of the 14 years we have done the food drive, but the determination of our volunteers and kindness of so many enabled us to surpass our goal. This food will satisfy the needs of the Food Bank for the next three months. Donations of cash and cheques will go toward milk, eggs, fresh produce, baby needs and the Harvest Program. Although our drive is only three weeks, it has always come down to the final few days. We had our usual amazing start with several successful events during the first two weeks however it was the final push that we needed. The London media again responded with full force and we are thankful for what they did during the final four days. The response during this time was overwhelming and humbling. We heard from small and big businesses, unions including Kellogg, institutions and organizations, students and seniors. Every contributor had helping others in mind and again confirmed our slogan of “Taking care of business means taking care of people.” Wayne Dunn and Ed Holder Co-chairs, Business Cares Food Drive
