LONDON NOTTING HILL CARNIVAL: OGUN BECKONS ON TOURISTS, INVESTORS Indigenes of Ogun State and other residents of the United Kingdom who come to Nigeria for their vacations have been urged to visit the various tourist sites in the State in order to have a first hand knowledge and experience of the varied cultural heritage with which it is blessed. The State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mrs. Yewande Amusan who made the call in London, said apart from having the experience, the visit would also expose them to various investment opportunities abound that they could tapped into. Mrs. Amusan was speaking at the just concluded Notting Hill Carnival, where the State participated to showcase its various traditional artifacts and cultural heritage for the first time. She reiterated that the State is endowed with a rich cultural legacy and lots of tourist attraction centers worth exploring; assuring that her Ministry is ever ready and willing to do business with any interested investor. Amusan added that her Ministry would continue to explore such cultural exchange programmes with other countries with a view to further showcasing the State’s cultural endowment “It is the first time we are able to showcase the state and there are lots of Nigerians abroad that want to identify with their home country. Let me seize this opportunity to call on indigenes and other residents here in London to come and have a feel of a cultural endowment that they could show their children and where possible explore for likely investment opportunities” Amusan remarked. Ogun State had a carnival float at the event with a colourful display of branded T-Shirts designed with the famous Adire fabric produced in the State. This year’s edition of the Notting Hill carnival which debuted some 47 years and had in attendance representatives from over 20 countries and five million spectators is an avenue to remind black residents of London of their roots as they dressed in costumes that mimicked their former colonial masters.
