***LOOKING FOR HIS OWN PERMANENT PLAYGROUP*** A volunteer writes: One might think that Haven is a shy boy. He is hesitant to come out of his kennel and walks the tail between his legs while on the leash. He was found as a stray and his past is a big quotation mark to us. Haven is well nourished but his coat is missing hair by places. Free in a pen, he keeps at first his distances then comes when I call him and sits a foot away from me allowing me to pet him. I feel his body relax a bit and his wary look subside. He even takes gently some treats from my hand. The street opens up a little bit more this timid boy. His tail comes up , he relieves himself in few stops and trots nicely by my side , pulling occasionally. He is cool with other dogs, big or small, neared. What really got Haven out of his timid shell, is the presence of other dogs.As he joined a doggies playgroup, although he was a little nervous at first, his playful nature surfaced and he really seemed to enjoy himself. I was so surprised and glad to see him running with his kind and enjoying himself. Such a simple remedy. Our Haven was not blue anymore. Haven is at the Manhattan shelter. He aced his behavioral evaluation. All what he needs now is a home and mostly the company of loving humans and may be other pooches like him. Come and meet him soon.
