LOST OF APPETITE FOR LEARNING Written by: Oladele Mayowa, a Communicator, Motivator and Critic. For: Initiator Media Network Sunday, 28th July 2014, 7:04pm Ibadan, Nigeria. It is no more news that Nigerian education had downgraded from standard to sub-standard. This downward of Nigerian education is a result of non-challant attitude of the government and the citizens. Its true that Nigerian government had failed in education sector but citizens also shared part of the blame. Many parents dont care about the academic performance of their children in school. Some who care even worsen the case by supporting examination malpractices. Many institutions in this country had produced great men in the past but reversed is the case now. Most of the current graduates are half-baked. People that graduated when there was no availability of internet were better than current graduates. Those people zest for learning really helped them to be a better men in the society. Undergraduates of nowadays have lost appetite for learning which make many of them depend on government jobs alone. Its awkward that most students of nowadays depend on exam expo before they can pass. This act is from the primary education to the university. Infact, examination malpratice is seen as norm in Nigeria, whereas it has ridiculed Nigerian certificate before Advanced countries. Many Nigerians cant write without using abbreviations. Some are even using it to write standard exams like WAEC and NECO. Note taking writing style is what many Nigerians are using to write. The worst part is that many Nigerians dont care to improve their spoken and written english. I want us to know that government alone cannot redeem the image of Nigerian education before other countries. Lets join hands to go against examination malpractice in our schools. Nigerian university can still be the best in Africa. Lets have appetite for learning in order to improve our spoken and written english. I accept every errors in this article as my fault.
