October 7th Announcements: SENIORS: • Josten’s will return on October 31st during lunches for make-up cap and gown orders. • Seniors: the first senior parent ad deadline is Oct. 15. Ads purchased by this deadline are discounted $40 off the final price. Order today and save. Visit fdhsyearbook to learn more about senior ads and senior portraits. JUNIORS: • All juniors, interested in being a part of the prom committee, please meet on TOMORROW, October 8th at 6:45 in room 604. The prom committee is for juniors only. FRESHMEN: • Attention ninth graders, would you like to earn college credit while earning your diploma? Dorchester School District Two Is looking for hard working freshmen to participate in the Early College program. This partnership with Trident Technical College will allow eligible students to gain credits toward a college degree while taking courses for high school graduation at little to no cost. If you have a great work ethic and academic potential, this could be a great start toward a college degree. We are hosting a parent information session on October 30th at 6:30. Please plan to attend. GENERAL: • If you ordered a hockey t-shirt you need to pay Ms. Belida in the front office before Oct 9th • The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. in Summerville is sponsoring an Esquires Mentoring Program for young men in grades 9-12. Interested students should see Mrs. Wright in the school counseling office ASAP. The application deadline is October 18th. • Girls step team tryouts will be October 15 and 16, 3:10-5:00 in the cafeteria. You have to be present both days and wear workout clothes including tennis shoes. • Testing Opportunities Upcoming: Wed Oct 9th – All 11th and 12th graders will take Work Keys. 10th and 9th graders will take a practice ACT. Please bring $10 to become members of the Surf rider Foundation. If you qualify for free or reduced lunch, your fee will be excused. See Ms. Jordan in room 502 if you have any questions. • Poetry Club: meets in the library every Friday morning at 6:55am • Band Boosters: will be selling Chick-Fil-A biscuits every Friday. • Spanish Honor Society: Meet the first Thursday of every month in room 611 • The “Bronies”: meet in room 633 every Thursday from 3:00 to 3:45pm • Student Council: meets Friday mornings at 6:45 in the auditorium. • Mock Trial Team: meets every Tuesday & Thursday 3:00pm-5:00pm in Room 603. • Habitat for Humanity: meets most Thursdays at 6:50 in room 802. We do not meet every week, but we do have a meeting next Thursday, Oct. 10th. • Zombie Appreciation Club: Monday 3-3:30 Room 822 • National Honor Society: Wed 650 am-715 room 815 • National Honor Society- Students Helping Students – Peer Tutoring Tuesday and Wednesday 3-3:30 in room 815 • Speech and Debate: meets Tues 6:50 am-715 & Thursday 3-4 • FCA- Fellowship of Christian Athletes: Thursdays- 6:55 am in room 122. All are welcome. • Girls Step Team – Tuesday and Wednesday 3:10-5:00, Cafeteria, beginning October 22. • Surf rider/Board Club, which meets every other Monday Starting October 7th from 3-4pm in room 519. SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE: • Teaching Fellows Scholarship – deadline to apply is December 1, 2013. You all worked hard and looked very professional!! SPORTS: • Your Fort Dorchester Cheerleaders will be competing this weekend. Oct. 12th at home. Competition starts at 1pm. Please come out and support your FD ladies! CONGRATULATIONS: • Student Eurndraus Bryant was named the News4 High School Hero of the week. Watch her on Live5 at 7 this Friday. • Congrats to our cheerleaders who completed at Spring Valley this weekend. JV earned Second Place and Varsity earned Third Place. Way to go Girls!! • The Lady Patriot Golf team finished in 11th place out of 18 schools Thursday at the Smith Memorial in Newberry. This was a Breast Cancer Awareness event and Fort Dorchester won first place in the Best Dressed Team competition. Leading the patriots were Taylor Mayers-88, Abby Ondrus -93, and Delanie Mortier-94. • Congratulations to the following orchestra students for successfully auditioning and being selected to participate in the South Carolina Music Educators Association Region IV Orchestra: Price Sineath, Garrett Larson, Carina Kastenholz and Benjamin Von Keller.
