LOTS OF SCHOOLS ARE DELAYED CLOSE ACROSS NL THIS MORNING: DETAILS HERE: https://nlesd.ca/statuscentral/statuscentral.jsp LOTS OF WINTER WEATHER RELATED WARNINGS IN EFFECT FOR LABRADOR AND FREEZING RAIN WARNINGS ARE IN EFFECT FOR CENTRAL/WESTERN NEWFOUNDLAND. DETAILS HERE: weather.gc.ca/warnings/index_e.html?prov=nl ------ Good Tuesday morning, folks! An area of low pressure will end up off the Labrador coast later this afternoon. As it does snow, it will deepen and cause snow to become very heavy at times across much of the Big Land, beginning later this morning and continuing into the night. Gusty winds will help blow the snow around and will also help to reduce visibility. Travel may nearly imposable in spots later today. Over 60 cm may fallen between Monday and tomorrow morning by the time the snow stops tomorrow morning in spots! Temperatures remain well below the freezing mark. Across Newfoundland this morning, temperatures range from near 6° for southern and southeastern areas, to near 0° for central and northwestern areas. Rain and freezing rain are still falling, especially central/west/north. The rain will end this morning, as a cold front moves through. This front will push across the entire Island, and cause temperatures to drop throughout the day. On the Northern Peninsula and West Coast, rain showers this morning will change to flurries this afternoon as temperatures fall below the freezing mark. Im not expecting much snow accumulation today. Central and eastern Newfoundland, along with South Coast, will see mild temperatures this morning, near 5-7°, fall back to near the freezing mark this afternoon. Expect some scattered showers and flurries later today, but we can also expect a mix of sun and cloud! In and around St. Johns, expect a mix of sun and cloud! Winds will be gusty and temperatures will start near 5-7°, but will fall back to near freezing this afternoon. ------ EXTENDED: An area of low pressure will pass near or east of the Avalon Peninsula late Thursday into Friday. This will bring significant winter weather to parts of central and eastern Newfoundland in that time frame. More details on this later today! Cheers, Meteorologist Eddie Sheerr
