LOVE THE POOR The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "O God, grant me life as a poor man, cause me to die as a poor man and resurrect me in the company of the poor." His wife asked him why he said that, and he replied: "Because (the poor) will enter Paradise (before) the rich. Do not turn away a poor man even if all you can give is half a date. If you love the poor and bring them near you God will bring you near Him on the Day of Resurrection." - Al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 1376 The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him) said: “I and the one who sponsors an orphan will be like this in Paradise,” and he gestured with his forefinger and middle finger, holding them slightly apart. Narrated by al- Bukhaari (5304) and Muslim (2983). Ahmad narrated (7260) from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that a man complained to the Messenger of Allaah (blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him) of his hardheartedness, and he said to him: “If you want to soften your heart, then feed the poor and pat the head of the orphan.” this hadeeth was classed as hasan by al-Haafiz in al-Fath (11/151) and by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami‘ no. 1410.
