LOW WOODY COVER - TRUMPETCREEPER. We shouldnt overlook the value of woody vines to provide low woody cover. Trumpet creeper, grapes, greenbrier, and poison ivy are just a few of the woody vines that pile up into tangles under which quail, rabbits, and grassland songbirds can hide. Trumpet creeper (Campsis radicans) is a vine with a compound leaf and a long orange trumpet-shaped flower that is a well known hummingbird food source. It occurs throughout the eastern United States on a variety of soil drainage classes. it does require light to grow well and is usually found growing on forest edges and climbing on fence posts and utility poles. The seeds in the long brown woody pods have wings on them and are widely disseminated from a single plant.
