LOYALSOCK PARENTS: PLEASE READ THIS. I sent this letter to the school district transportation department and to the HS and MS principals just now. PLEASE SHARE IT and USE IT. First, here are the email addresses (since theyre not easily found on the website): (transportation) [email protected], (HS principal) [email protected], (MS principal) [email protected] ANGRY, FRUSTRATED, SCARED, AND ASTONISHED are just a few of the words I would use to describe how Im feeling this morning. I live right across the street from the Loyalsock MS/HS. I watch my 11yo daughter walk across the street every morning and dont go inside until the crossing guard safely crosses her. On at least FOUR occasions, the crossing guard at the corning of Northway Road and Loyalsock Drive has been late. This morning HE DID NOT SHOW UP AT ALL. By 7:35, I crossed my daughter myself. I then watched a group of 3 students nearly get hit by several cars. I then watched another group of 2 nearly get hit, WHILE I was on the phone with the middle school office to alert them of this VERY dangerous situation. NO CROSSING GUARD EVER SHOWED UP. I also called the state police and was told its a school district issue. STILL NO CROSSING GUARD. I watched TOO MANY STUDENTS try to navigate the equivalent of Frogger game while attempting to get to school. I called the middle school again and was told Mr. Gaetano couldnt make it out there, I tried to call the high school to see if they could help but there line was busy, I couldnt leave because I had an office full of students, its been reported. REALLY? IN MY OPINION, Mr. Gaetano shouldve dropped WHATEVER he was doing for the safety of the children, and whoever it was that answered the phone should have LEFT THE OFFICE FULL OF SAFE STUDENTS, to ensure that ALL THE STUDENTS ARRIVED SAFELY. I AM APPALLED at the actions, or inactions, of EVERY SINGLE PERSON who was involved in this possible disaster. I honestly believed that within a minute after I called, I wouldve seen one of the MANY school district employees who are in the building to be running out to what has to be the most dangerous intersection in the township at this time of day. I thought the Loyalsock School District was BETTER than this. I would like a response ASAP to the following: I would like to know that this crossing guard has been reprimanded, and to what extent. I would like to know how the school district plans to change their policy to ensure that this NEVER HAPPENS AGAIN, including a policy on how to handle it if a crossing guard leaves his/her post, or doesnt show up at all. For your information, I will be posting this email on my Facebook wall and encouraging ALL Loyalsock township parents to complain about this situation, if not for the safety of their own children, but for ALL children. Depending on the response I receive, I may also send it to the Sun-Gazette. I can be reached at 570-560-9925. I expect to hear from someone shortly. Diane Sergejenko
