LUNGA Bullets extended their lead at the summit of the Northern league with a comfortable 99-57 win over Mufulira Magnets. Bullets, who went into the weekend fixture leading second placed YMCA Stingers by one point, extended the lead to two after their closest rivals lost to Ndola Nets. Bullets’ win put them in pole position to retain the title they won last season. But Stingers, who have shown a lot of consistency this son, will have to work extra hard to remain in touching distance with the leaders. Stingers over the weekend lost by a single basket when Nets ran away with a 63-62 win to go to 19 points. Third-placed CBU Comets beat Kwacha Crusaders 69-51 to reduce the gap on Stingers to three points, while Crusaders moved to fifth place on 16 points, one ahead of CEC Cavaliers who were not in action over the weekend. In the women’s league, leaders CEC Queens were too good for CBU Robins winning 48-28 to move to 20 points on the log, while Lunga Woosters managed a 42-37 win against Kwacha Girls to maintain second position on the table with 15 points but with a game in hand. In the southern top league, all the title-chasing sides picked up wins on a weekend the league concluded the second series of games.
