LWVPA supports equal access to quality public education, to be achieved by participation of government and citizens at all levels and by adequate financing based on an equitable and flexible tax system. Join parents, students, teachers and community members from across the state to SPEAK UP in support of our public schools on Tuesday, May 6th! Over the past three years children throughout Pennsylvania have lost teachers, librarians, counselors, nurses, and art and music programs. Negotiations for the 2014-2015 state budget are underway, and the Governor and state legislature need to hear from us that we want them to support public schools. We know that just 10 calls in one day to one legislator can make a difference in what a legislator pays attention to. So tomorrow - Tuesday, May 6th – take 10 minutes to do 3 things to make a difference! 1. Call Gov. Corbetts office at (717) 787-2500. 2. Call your State Senator. 3. Call your State Representative. Ask them to allocate state funding using a fair, transparent, and accurate funding formula. Keep the proposed increase for special education of $20 million in the budget. Restore charter school reimbursement payments to local school districts. Visit the LWVPA education page for more information on the leagues position on education, information on current bills, and links to other organizations working to promote equal access to quality education in Pennsylvania.
