LYNCHBURG DISTRICT TRAFFIC ALERT July 29- August 2, 2013 LYNCHBURG – Highway work requiring road/lane./structure closures is scheduled, weather permitting. Traffic may be restricted. Items in italics contain new/updated information. For up-to-date information, call 511 or visit 511Virginia.org. Amherst County: Don Austin, Residency Administrator Route 29 North and South over Buffalo River (739 – 151) –All traffic using southbound lanes during bridge work; speed limit reduced to 50 mph. Est. completion – 4/29/14. Route 60 over Buffalo River (716-802) – Bridge reconstruction. A temporary detour with signage, flaggers and temporary traffic control will be constructed beginning Jan. 14. Detour will be in place in mid-February. The detour will be 22 ft-wide with a temporary signal and 25 mph speed limit. Est. comp. Dec. 6, 2013. Route 641 over Dancing Creek – A signed detour using Route 610 and 643 will be in place during bridge superstructure replacement. Road will be closed from July 22 through October 4. Appomattox County: Don Austin, Residency Administrator None Buckingham County: Kevin Wright, Residency Administrator Route 612 over Willis River – Road closed July 8- September 9 for bridge work. Detour in place. Route 633 (15-600) – Road will be closed beginning August 29 to replace two pipes. Message boards will be in place and estimated completion is Wednesday, August 31. Route 651- Cross line pipe will be replaced. Closures likely. Route 700- Road closed to through traffic until Aug. 9 for Rural Rustic Road project and intersection relocation. Various – Crews will cut brush, work surfaces, mow and respond to customer concerns. Campbell County: Don Austin, Residency Administrator None Charlotte County: Kevin Wright, Residency Administrator Route 47 over Roanoke River – Bridge deck repairs. Various – Crews will repair flood damage, work surfaces, mow, boom axe and respond to customer concerns. Cumberland County: Kevin Wright, Residency Administrator Various – Crews will work surfaces, cut brush, clean pipe and ditches and respond to customer concerns Halifax County: Kenneth Martin, Residency Administrator US 501and VA 360 – Milling and paving operations will take place, weather permitting, in the Town of Halifax. Motorists should use caution and be alert to the presence of manpower and equipment. In addition, line painting will take place once paving is complete. Route 628 over Bradley Creek – Road will be closed to through traffic between Route501 and Route 647 from Aug. 12 – Nov. 15, 2013 for structure replacement. Signed detour will be in place. Route 642 – Road will be closed from Route 57 to Route 501 on Monday, July 29, 2013 for pipe replacement. Route 716 over Stewart Gibson Creek – Road closed July 8-Oct. 4 for structure replacement. Detour in place. Routes 780 and 861 (Volens) – Crews will perform ditch work. Various – Crews will daylight signs, mow, work surfaces and respond to customer concerns. Nelson County: Don Austin, Residency Administrator Route 29 South over Rockfish River – Bridge reconstruction will result in a temporary detour via Routes 6 & 6Y using signage, flaggers, temporary traffic control and temporary signal. The detour will have 12-ft wide lanes with a temporary signal. Est. comp. Nov. 20, 2013. Pittsylvania County: Kenneth Martin, Residency Administrator Route 640 (Riceville Rd) – Road will be closed from the intersection of Route 681 to Route 1036 from June 10 through early August. Route 677 – Road remains closed due to flooding. Repairs are underway. Various – Crews will perform surface, ditch, pipe, and shoulder work, pick up litter at various location, clean brush around sign, guardrail and at intersections and address customer concerns. Prince Edward County: Kevin Wright, Residency Administrator Various - Crews will work surfaces, clean sewers, repair shoulders, perform ditch work, mow, cut brush, pick up trash, and respond to customer concerns.
