LYNCHBURG DISTRICT TRAFFIC ALERT May 18-24, 2014 LYNCHBURG – Highway work requiring road/lane./structure closures is scheduled, weather permitting. Traffic may be restricted. Amherst County: Don Austin, Residency Administrator Route 29 North and South over Buffalo River (739 – 151) –As of May 15, northbound traffic is using the northbound travel lane onto the newly-constructed bridge. The speed limit is reduced to 50 mph. The travel lane width is 12 ft with 8 ft paved shoulders. Southbound traffic will be unchanged until completion. Est. comp. 6/15/14. Route 60 over Buffalo River (716-802) – Bridge reconstruction with 16’ wide detour, temporary signal and 25 mph speed limit. As of May 15, the contractor will be using flaggers to direct traffic during the day to make tie-ins to turn traffic onto new bridge. Est. comp. 6/30/14. Routes 56, 60 and 151 – Crews will conduct plant mix and surface treatment operations on various routes. Delays are possible. Various – Crews will respond to customer concerns. Also, crews will mill and pave. Signs and other traffic control devices will be in use. Minor delays expected through 12/5/14. Appomattox County: Don Austin, Residency Administrator Route 727 –Crews will conduct plant mix and surface treatment operations on various routes. Various – Crews will respond to customer concerns. Also, crews will mill and pave. Signs and other traffic control devices will be in use. Minor delays expected through 12/5/14. Buckingham County: Kevin Wright, Residency Administrator Various – Crews will make surface repairs, cut brush, mow and respond to customer concerns. Campbell County: Don Austin, Residency Administrator Secondary routes –Plant mix and surface treatment operations on various routes. Various – Crews will respond to customer concerns. Also, crews will mill and pave. Signs and other traffic control devices will be in use. Minor delays expected through 12/5/14. Charlotte County: Kevin Wright, Residency Administrator Craftons Gate- Crews will mow on various routes. Phenix – Crews will clean pipes and ditches and add shoulder stone. Various – Crews will work surfaces, boom axe and respond to customer concerns. Various secondary routes–Crews will mill and pave. Signs and other traffic control devices will be in use. Minor delays expected through 12/5/14. Cumberland County: Kevin Wright, Residency Administrator Route 600 over Little Willis River – Road closed until late June from Route 636 to Route 633 for bridge maintenance work. A signed detour will be in place. Route 616 – Road will be closed between Route 45 and Route 607. A 3.5-mile detour is in place. Est. comp. 5/30/14. Various – Crews will work surfaces, cut brush, clean pipe and ditches, and respond to customer concerns. Halifax County: Kenneth Martin, Residency Administrator Bethel and Cluster Springs– Crews will clean pipe at various locations. Bethel – Crews will clean ditches and inventory pipe. Various – Crews will perform surface work, mow and respond to customer concerns. Nelson County: Don Austin, Residency Administrator Route 623 over Rockfish River– Road closed during bridge replacement at the intersection of 617/623. A signed detour will be in place. Estimated completion – 9/ 30/14. Various – Crews will respond to customer concerns. Also, crews will mill and pave. Signs and other traffic control devices will be in use. Minor delays expected through 12/5/14. Pittsylvania County: Kenneth Martin, Residency Administrator Route 58 bet. Danville city limits and Halifax County line; Route 58 storm basins and frontage road, Brosville area; Route 29, Gretna area and various primary and secondary routes – Crews will mow. Brosville, Gretna, Kentuck and Rondo – Crews will ditch at various locations. Gretna and Kentuck – Crews will clean pipe on secondary routes. Kentuck – Crews will boom axe on secondary routes. Route 29 Bypass and Route 642 – Temporary restrictions in place during work on bridge over Norfolk-Southern Railway. Signs and other traffic control devices in place. Estimated completion May 30, 2014. Various – Crews will work surfaces, clean up roadsides and respond to customer concerns. Prince Edward County: Kevin Wright, Residency Administrator Route 15 – Road widening project. Estimated completion mid-July 2014. Route 623 – Drivers are urged to use caution during bridge replacement over Norfolk Southern and Buckingham Branch Railroads. Est. comp. 6/30/15. Route 633 (15 – 360) – Traffic control devices and flaggers will be in place during bridge replacement project. Estimated completion date is October 2014. Route 658 – Flaggers will guide motorists through paving operations. Be alert! Various – Crews will pick up trash, cut brush, clean pipe, make surface repairs and respond to customer concerns. Various –Surface treatment operations will take place on various routes through 10/31/14. District-wide activities: Bridge and guardrail maintenance – Crews will perform bridge and guardrail maintenance, including bridge washing at various locations. Signs, flaggers and other safety devices will be used to alert motorists to these operations. Latex schedules -In preparation for latex paving schedules, crews will be eradicate link markings at various locations. Message boards – Work is continuing on the installation of message boards at various locations. Be alert.
