LYTTELTON ROAD TUNNEL CELEBRATIONS Sunday August 31 Tunnel will be closed to all traffic from 9.30am to 12.30pm on Sunday 31 August for people to walk or cycle through the tunnel. The last No.28 bus to arrive in Lyttelton will be at 9.12am. The last scheduled No. 28 bus to leave Lyttelton will be at 9.15am. Bus services will continue to operate during the closure, however buses will be re-routed through Governors Bay and over Dyers Pass Road. Official event begins at 9.30am with the opening of the Lyttelton Tunnel Control Building [Heathcote]. The tunnel will open at about 10.00am in both directions for cyclists to go through, followed by skateboards and lastly walkers – for a gold coin donation – all funds raised going to Cholmondeley Children’s Centre. Following the formal celebrations, the tunnel will be open until 12.30pm for the public to make their way through the tunnel at their leisure. Once in Lyttelton, head to London Street and join in the Lyttelton Harbour Business Association’s Portside Market Day, which runs from 9.00am to 2.00pm.
