The subject is emblematic: the four elements plead with God about the destruction of man; Death intercedes in his favour, man will only be submitted to the deluge and will eventually rescued from the waters. In the tradition of Carissimi and Handel, the music, of great originality, suits Sicilia perfectly, being a land where the vocal traditions of East and West meet.
