La Humeadora National Park in the Dominican Republic provides fresh water to the capital city of Santo Domingo, but many local residents are unaware of its important ecosystem services. With support from CEPF through our investment in the Caribbean Islands Hotspot, Fondo Pronaturaleza Inc. (Pronatura) developed participatory management and action plans for long-term conservation of La Humeadora. Pronatura also established environmental education activities to increase awareness about the parks ecosystem services, particularly water resources.
