LaGrange College held a student run Model United Nations simulation for 140 local high school students from Troup High School, Valley High School, and West Georgia Homeschool Association, playing countries in teams of four. The simulation was be held by LaGrange College’s International Organizations class in the Dickson Assembly room located in Turner Hall on Tuesday November 4th from 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. The simulation will give the high school students an idea of what the four United Nations councils (Health, Security, Human Rights, and Economic) will encounter during an international crisis involving an Ebola outbreak and a terrorist group which kidnapped health workers in West Africa. LaGrange College students who organized this include Lavurn Billups, Abigail Bowen, Kadeshia Brown, Jessica Nelson, Giovanna Ortiz, Jeremiah Parks, Reece Powell, Oscar Prim and Mark Wagner. They wrote the papers preparing the students, created the simulation, drafted the committees, rules, and countries, and managed the budget (awards, certificates, refreshments), provided by the Student Government. Phelan Scott helped with the writing of the papers and designing of the scenario as well.
