Labor Day Monday song of the day: Most younger folks know the late - TopicsExpress

Labor Day Monday song of the day: Most younger folks know the late Jimmy Dean from his sausage company. Those of us alive in the 1960s remember him from his earlier career as a country singer and TV variety show host (His 1963-1966 Jimmy Dean Show provided early national exposure to The Muppets, with Rowlf the dog serving as kind of a sidekick to Dean). After the variety show ended, he had a fairly successful career as an actor, with his best-known role probably as Willard Whyte in the James Bond film Diamonds are Forever. And of course, the Jimmy Dean Sausage Company is still around today. He died in June 2010. Big Bad John was his biggest hit, reaching #1 on the main US charts as well as the country charts in 1961. We had the album when I was a little kid, and I remember hearing it hundreds of times. Im not generally a fan of country, but I have a soft spot for Jimmy Dean. youtube/watch?v=KnnHprUGKF0 Tomorrow: Sat down for a drink in her fathers favorite chair
