Labor of love... Refurbing my 1985 Les Paul Custom. The original tuning pegs were Schallers with built-in retractable speed-winding handles. Very cool design, but totally shot and they havent been made for over 25 years. Replaced them with ordinary tuners, but since the mounting screws are in a different place, they have a badass Warwick style slant now. The bridge mechanism is an ingenious combination of a precision tuners and high-tech whammy bar rocker that has patent applied for stamped on it. Unfortunately, the bearings have deteriorated, causing it to stick. This made the guitar drift flat for about two weeks after it was restrung. After several failed attempts to repair it, I remembered that I lost the whammy bar years ago, and no one over the age of 16 has used a whammy bar in this century anyway, so I put in a stand off post to tension the spring and lock the rocker in position. Now it tunes bang on again for the first time in about a decade. Takes the stick out of the whole iPhone repair fiasco.
