Ladi6 Review by @DuneFdkns Ok, what to say about Ladi6s 1st gig back from the U.S/U.K, & the first of her N.Z tour with Team Dynamite. Ive attended many Ladi6 gigs in her careers, spanning from nearly 15 years plus, from her beginnings with Christchurch based girl band ( Sheila Rock ) then her move to Auckland to form band ( Verse 2 ) with Parks, whom is now her partner & loving Father to their son Philly. I arrived at Stampede Bar Papakura & as I was entering their nice & secluded establishment greeted by friendly staff. I bumped into Ladi6 herself in the hallway wishing her well & she seemed very excited, though nerves seemed visible. Kinda like a veteran Rugby player who still feels pins & needles before every game ? Though I sensed a family vibe as it was her 1st show back in NZ & there were a lot of her friends & family in attendance. She performed songs from all 3 albums to date from Time is not much ( 1st ) The liberation of Ladi 6 ( 2nd ) to her latest masterpiece ( Automatic ) who has just been released on vinyl. Standout songs for me were Diamonds Odisee remix, Down & out, 98 til now is one of my all time favorites cause she raps anyone under the table on that joint .... I can pretty much say her whole entire set killed most local gigs, especially with their live sound, Parks on deck & samples, Julian Dyne the drummer ( Whom is a master in his own right ) & the keyboardist who complimented the set along with the sound man who had a nice set up I was anaylizing lolz. I think the feel of the venue & size made it more intimate & there was no where to hide lolz. But without a doubt without Ladi6s sultry voice/songwriting the band would find it difficult to bring in the punters. I give it 4 spray cans outta 5. Shout out to Recommended Dosage & Repfm N.Zs number 1 hiphop station & of course ....
