Ladies and Gentlemen, You are cordially invited to attend a deployment ceremony for 3rd Battalion, 197th Field Artillery Regiment, New Hampshire Army National Guard, on Sunday, Jan. 11, at the Southern New Hampshire University Field House, 2500 North River Road, Manchester. The ceremony begins at 2 p.m. More than 300 soldiers from the HIMARS battalion, which will include soldiers from the NHARNGs 744th Combat Services Forward Support Company and 372nd Signal Company, will deploy to the Middle East in support of Operation Spartan Shield, an ongoing U.S. Army training mission in the Central Command area of operations. 3rd Battalion will conduct artillery-focused training engagements with allied nations. It marks the first time a National Guard field artillery battalion has been activated to support Spartan Shield. The battalion will report to Fort Bliss, Texas in February for pre-mobilization training before departing overseas. In 2010, 3/197th FAR deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation New Dawn, and it was one of just a few National Guard units to support combat operations in the Vietnam War.
