Ladies and gentlemen, they did it! We all knew they had it in them. Those of us who have fretfully observed the republicans over the years know that they have the potential to do anything. Whether they play their games out in the open-like this shutdown-or whether they maneuver under the table like they did in the Watergate shenanigans and Iran /Contra, they always have a scheme ready to put into action. They euphemistically call it Plan B. The republican brain remains strangled by dogma. An immediate question arises over this hullabaloo. Why have these bimbos become so crazy over the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act? Three realities offer a perspective into the motives behind all of this foot-stomping, teeth-gnashing, tantrum-throwing brouhaha. First, the republicans do not want government to nurture the American people. This process offers citizens independence from business interests who want to capitalize upon controlling the destiny of people. They want corporate management to hold sway over the nation’s population. The republicans want the insurance companies to have an uninhibited opportunity to dip their hands into peoples’ wallets. Republicans believe that the business elite manage money better than “ordinary” citizens. To them this disenfranchisement represents prudent reallocation of capital. Second, and most important, republicans absolutely do not want ALL people to have access to quality health care. Money loves hierarchy, and social stratification provides a necessary means of putting people in their appropriate place in society. The wealthy obtained their resources because they’re better than the rest. The poor suffer because of their own ineptitude. The deprivation of the underclass represents a natural consequence of their inferior character and conduct. THE BEST FOR THE BEST. A sick little old lady in Harlem or East Saint Louis should not receive the same care as Dick Cheney or Donald Trump. To the republican mind giving quality care to the ghetto inhabitant represents a waste of resources. These GOP storm troopers want to maintain discrimination in the provision of health care in this country. Third, denial of health care can become a form of social control. Imperial Russia and the Soviet Union could banish people to Siberia when they stepped out of line. America does not have a Siberia, so the elites in this country create a realm of destitution and social obloquy in which they can imprison society’s troublemakers. Forced detainment in the ghetto under the weight of penury and sub-standard care becomes the American Siberia. If the government steps in and helps people, this system of stratification and class selection will diminish. It represents equalizing this repulsively unequal society of ours. This prospect drives the republicans gaga. The republicans have become the Robin hoods of America’s undeserving rich. They are the tribunes of the corporate criminal. They coddle and worship the Koch Brothers, and they still find a warm spot in their hearts for Bernard Madoff, Allen Stanford and Andy Fastow. After all, a buck is a buck regardless of how dishonestly you obtained it.
