Lady Reds Match Report Rnd 15 Kingston City FC vs Brighton SC by Maria Gaitanis The Lady Reds played hosts to visitors Brighton SC on Sunday hoping to achieve back to back win’s following last weeks impressive victory. KC’s squad was depleted again missing three key players & only two on the bench. With that in mind the girls immediately applied pressure on Brighton controlling the ball. It wasn’t long before the home side got on the score board as in the 8th min a cross from Joanne found Kim lurking at the top of the 18 yard line, drilling a low shot towards the far upright & handing KC a 1-0 lead. KC kept building up on their momentum & doubled their lead eight min later. At the 16th min mark Kat crossed the ball to Joanne who lobbed the ball over the keeper & into the net extending KC’s lead to 2-0. Brighton came close to scoring at the 31st min when their striker found space to shoot only to blaze the ball over the bar. With half time approaching KC had the majority of possession & was dominating but an unfortunate injury to captain Anita required the game to be halted for the Ambulance to arrive. A third knee injury in the same area of the ground had claimed KC’s captain as it took around half an hour for the ambo’s to arrive & take Anita away. With an extended half time break KC had to regroup as coach Tony made vital changes on the board. Only one sub was left now & they too were injured so a tough 45min beckoned for KC. The girls now had to dig deep & work hard not to let Brighton in the game. At times KC resorted to desperate defending but managed to clear. Brighton’s constant pressure paid off in the 75th min when they capitalised on a backline error. It took them three attempts but they managed to slip a goal in past keeper Larby making it 2-1. KC now had their backs to the wall & could not afford another slip up as a youthful Brighton were looking to equalise. Luckily KC held their nerve & shut down any attempt by the visitors grinding out an inspirational 2-1 victory. Well done girls on a marvellous effort. Seeing your captain get hurt & taken away to hospital then play on undermanned & win the game was truly inspirational. It shows plenty of depth, spirit & character this squad has. More good news was to follow with reports of Anita’s knee injury not too serious, just bruising & ligament strain. Final score Kingston City 2-1 Brighton SC
