Lafayette and Acadiana Renaissance Charter Schools Expand Open Enrollment Period LAFAYETTE, LA. (March 10, 2014) – The Lafayette Charter Foundation has extended its open enrollment period until March 31 at Lafayette Renaissance Charter Academy and Acadiana Renaissance Charter Academy. Managed by Charter Schools USA, open enrollment began Feb. 1, 2014 and those interested can apply online at LafayetteCharter.org or AcadianaCharter.org. Both schools are currently under construction and will be brand new state-of-the-art facilities. “Because of the unusual weather we’ve experienced this past winter, we thought it would be best to extend the open enrollment period for parents who were unable to attend information sessions,” said Mary Cook, board chair. “We certainly want to give every parent an opportunity to get the information they need and apply for their child’s place in our schools.” Charter schools are tuition-free public schools that offer innovative instruction while meeting all state requirements. All students in the state of Louisiana are given equal access and if more students apply during open enrollment than there are seats available, a random lottery will be held in compliance with state regulations. “Students can apply at any time, even after open enrollment closes,” added Cook. “However, those who apply during open enrollment are entered into the lottery if there are more students than seats available. Those applying after open enrollment closes are offered any available seats by grade level after the lottery or are placed on a waiting list in the order in which they apply. Additional Information sessions have been added on the following dates: Lafayette Renaissance Charter Academy – Tuesday - 3/18 and 3/25 at 6:30 p.m. at Ramada Lafayette Conference Center - 2032 N.E. Evangeline Thruway Acadiana Renaissance Charter Academy – Monday – 3/17 and 3/24 at 6 p.m. at the Comeaux Recreation Center; 411 W. Bluebird Dr. in Lafayette.
