Lake Affect Snow is one of the coolest phenomenons. For those of you that dont know how it works Ill explain. When cold air filters down from Canada that cold air blows over the great lakes and the warm water of the lakes combined with the very cold air blowing over it forms snow bands that travel over the areas just off the lakes. When were dealing with cold air blasts like this one, it can be relentless. The wind keeps blowing across and the snow bands keep coming. As the winter goes on and the lakes get colder and sometimes freeze over, the lake affect snow becomes much less intense because theres not that warm water to interact with. Some areas were getting bands of 3-5 inches per hour last night and this morning and theyre measuring in multiple feet of snow. All from Lake Affect Snow. Its something I want to experience for myself at some point in my life!
